Supreme Court of Nepal orders Yog Raj Dhakal aka Regal’s arrest, ruling in favor of Bharati Sherpa

In a dramatic turn of events, the Supreme Court has issued a compelling order for the arrest of Yograj Dhakal, widely known as Regal. This decision comes after the Supreme Court reversed the initial ruling that led to Dhakal’s release from prison. The ruling was made in favor of Bharati Sherpa, the brave widow of Chetan Manandhar, who fell victim to Dhakal’s violence in Nepalgunj.

Despite an amnesty granted by the President, based on the government’s recommendation, for the killer of Chetan Manandhar, the decision was swiftly overturned. The joint bench of judges, including Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Sapna Pradhamalla, and Kumar Chudal, nullified the president’s office’s decision to grant amnesty to Dhakal. Instead, they ordered his immediate arrest and detention, marking a clear stance against injustice.

This development occurred against the backdrop of Constitution Day, when the Council of Ministers made the controversial decision to release Yograj Dhakal from imprisonment. The government’s recommendation led to Dhakal’s temporary freedom. However, Bharati Sherpa, undeterred by the government’s actions, took matters to the Supreme Court. She filed a writ petition challenging the government’s decision, ultimately leading to this significant reversal in the pursuit of justice for her late husband, Chetan Manandhar.
